Will I lose my fin aid due to an illness?

Okay,

So I go to a University of North Carolina system school and recently, I was forced to drop down from full-time to part-time as a result of a illness. I did not want to drop out completely as I was managing that 1 class quite well. This illness is well documented with the school, etc.

So I never worried about my financial aid before, gosh, I can't even remmeber what I did to apply for it.

But according to the people at my schools fin aid office, I will lose ALL my fin aid as a result of me dropping down to part-time student.

Here is what my fall fin aid looks like,

FALL *Academic Enhancement Grant 08-15-08
200 Dollars
FALL *Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan 08-15-08
1715 Dollars
FALL *Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan 08-15-08
980 Dollars
FALL UNC Need Based Grant 08-15-08
1850 Dollars

I plan on getting back to school full time next semster, it just sucks that I have to lose ALL that financial aid, does anyone know if there are exceptions to that rule because of an illness/temp disability? Is there some higher power that I can appeal to?

I guess my school haven't noticed I dropped down to part-time yet as their records at fin aid still shows me to be a full time student.

Please talk to a financial aid officer. Each school has its own policies regarding withdrawals. There are some federal regulations involved, but the schools set timelines for withdrawals, refunds, etc. Only your f/a office can tell you exactly what will happen for you & how this might affect your aid for next term. Do not speak to them in hypothetical terms - tell them your story & let them tell you what happens now.
