As an International not asking for Financial Aid, what chances do I stand at Brown RD?

Looks like you've got a reasonable shot. I'd play up that gap year -- sounds like you did some cool stuff and are willing to take risks!

what school are you attending? I am going to an international school in Seoul too

im assuming you are pretty well versed in quite a few languages. Take SAT2's in Spanish (success on the A-Level) and Korean, and try to find some sort of standardized test out there for Norweigian, and have the results sent.

Again, I'm only assuming that you can speak in these toungues, but if you can, being quadrilingual is quite a hook.

i cant speak korean to save my life, and my spanish is decent, not excellent. norwegian is good, but there is no standardized test i can take...btw i took spanish o-level. nice advice though. I sent in my spanish A grade, and having lived in norway for 15 years makes it pretty obvious that i know norwegian.

yeah, but find some sort of fluency test (you might have to think outside the box here) and ace it. That way there is no doubt in their mind that you can speak Norwegian.

"just because you live in Miami, they don't assume you can speak Spanish"

ok..so thats a little joke....but make sure that there is no doubt in their mind that you have mastered the language

Brown is not a sure thing for you, but it is a realistic possibility. Have some match and safeties as a back up. Carelton might be a good match.

nice suggestion pyewacket...i might apply there although i already have a guaranteed entry for 2006 fall at U of Warwick in England...

btw if its mentioned in a teacher rec that speak norwegian fluently, is that enough?

if your teacher mentions it, you should be fine

any more comments on how I might fare in the RD round?

I think that it is possible that you get into Brown; I think it is possible that you don't get into Brown. Hope that helps, lover.

wow Esquared. that was one helluva helpful comment :p

Your SAT Math score is too low for an International.

Huh? 690 isn't terrific, but it's nothing to sneeze at.

plus the 750 on math 1c and 5 on AP physics kind of makes up for it. You can't get those scores without a pretty strong math ability.

I just got my SAT II result in World History which turned out to be a 760. Nothing super-spectacular but it broke the 750 mark. Now, will brown just consider my SAT IIs as 750 IC and 760 WH? Or will they look at my other crappy scores?

They'll probably just look at the three highest.

Oh ok...so this means they look at 3 SAT IIs + CR, M, and WR from SAT I? or is it 2 SAT IIs + Wr from SAT I + (Cr+M)?
