Chance me for:
NYU
BC
and recommend good schools for me in the east coast area? preferably big city

very impressive!

i think you have a good chance for NYU!(:

really good chance

You’ll need the high end of your SAT range for both.

^ hopefully ill make 2100, if not nyu has this option where you can not submit your sat scores and submit subject tests and ap scores instead. :-)

thank you guys! but my counselor sat that nyu is very, very competitive nowadays… im so nervous

I don’t have a great idea since you’re international but I’ll try. Your SAT II scores are weak. Math is subpar and USH is only okay. DON’T take Chinese if you are Chinese… it proves absolutely nothing and colleges won’t appreciate it. Take something else. Your GPA looks alright, could obviously be better but yeah…
Anyways, onto your ECs, I have no idea what Board Policy Committee/ Student World Assembly does, so I cant really comment. Practically everyone seems to be in NHS so it’s not a great achievement. You seem to have a passion for photography and graphic design so try to pursue that even further your senior year. Go further with the company you’re working for, emphasize your leadership position on your school’s yearbook and point out your being published/featured on webzine.
Your SATs have to be strong for NYU… anything under 2000 will really hurt you. But, without these scores, I can’t say for certain what your chances are. Nonetheless, good luck

^^^ actually the fact that she is from new zealand and not applying for FA
can be really helpful

NYU isn’t competitive. You’re def. in.

50+j40% chance of making it in if you up some of those test scores, o.w. you r screwed 4 lyf3.

I wonder why Nuclear Pakistan hasn’t posted here yet? :)

Anyway you have a good shot. It’s no guarantee, of course, but it’s all right. A “likely” school in my opinion.

jubliant, thank you so much for your honest and insightful advice! and thank you everyone else who posted too! man I’m still having ambivalent feelings…

For my native language, I chose english, and for primary language I speak at home I chose Other (because Taiwanese is very different from Chinese, hehehe). Based on that, do you think getting an 800 on chinese would still help? I’m guessing not :P

The Board Policy Committee reviews & amends the rules and policies of our school- we actually changed quite a few policies this year and added an entire section on sexual harassment. pretty much we have 3 teacher representatives, 3 non-teaching faculty representatives and 1 student rep (they introduced it this year)! I was lucky to be chosen!

The Student World Assembly is an online/local group- kind of like Global Issues and MUN, where we debate political issues and do awareness campaigns.

^Who is nuclear pakistan? :o

NYU (UNLESS you’re going for Stern) is not the toughest school to get into. True, you’re Asian. But you’re also from New Zealand, which I really feel is a plus. We really don’t have too many New Zealanders around here. NYU is a school that prides itself on diversity; coming from NZ will, more likely than not, help.

I personally don’t find anything a 2100 a good score. But for NYU, I think breaking 2000 or scoring mid 2000s and above would do - to be safe.
Your subject test scores aren’t great. But definitely clean up that 680.

To be honest, I don’t see you getting into the Ivies unless you raise some scores (and for Ivies, there’s that whole crazy deal with your EC’s and achievements reflecting your passions and all that). But that stuff isn’t as important for NYU. I can imagine you getting into NYU.

For NYU, it all depends what college you’re applying to. Some colleges enforce personal statements (Gallatin, Steinhardt) and some colleges within NYU enforce raw stats ( CAS, Stern) and then there are odd colleges that require a portfolio of your best work ( Tisch).

From the majors you have listed you are probably going to apply to CAS. But you cannot apply to Int’l Relations until sophomore year. ( GPA requirement of 3.6, but heard it is going up to 3.65) Chancing you for CAS, I would say that you would probably get accepted. Try and retake that SAT II score.

If you get closer to a 1800 on the SAT, CAS is going to be a reach. If you get closer to a 2100, it will be more of a match! Good luck!

Decent chance at NYU.
Score high on SAT. Decent ECs.

This would be a subpar application at Ivies though.

^ Thanks!! Yep I’m applying for CAS! And no worries, I’m not even gonna bother applying to ivies :stuck_out_tongue: I’d rather not gamble on the impossible chance to be accepted than feel the misery of rejection. Hahaha.

yangx88, do you go to NYU?

Nope, I don’t go to NYU.
I’m a senior and I’m applying to a couple of schools this year
I know a bit about college admissions from my parents (both are Ivy alumnus who’ve been through the “process”) and my siblings.

^ Ooh! Good luck then! Are you aiming for ivies? :D

You are in at nyu
seriously, your stats are good

thank you, thank you! moar chances pl0x

Get a 2100 and you’ll stand a pretty good chance Early Decision. Numbers wise, CAS is not much easier to get into than Stern, so don’t underestimate it. Good luck!
