So I'm applying EA to MIT, and as you can tell, the deadline is pretty much now. I was planning on submitting the research paper I wrote from my research over the summer. However, I just now realize that I need my research mentor to write a recommendation, and I doubt they'll have time at this point. Will I not be able to submit the research supplement now?

I do not fully understand the requirement that makes submitting a research paper conditional on having a recommendation. But my general answer is to submit the research paper and request the recommendation, asking your mentor to submit it as soon as possible, possibly by Nov. 7 (give him a week), and letting him know it was really due Nov. 1. If you are lucky, your file will not be read for a couple of weeks. Recommendations are out of your control, so there may be leniency in accepting late submittals, if they arrive before the file is read. Not a hugely wonderful strategy and it may not work, but what else have you got?

Ok thanks, I will try that.
