Think very hard before you incur any debt to go to law school with the goal of practicing in the US. I hire for Big Law and I can tell you that the entire professional model of practicing law here has changed and will never go back. I am personally acquainted with many (many!) graduates of good law schools who now work at $10 per hour temps reviewing documents in basements in New Jersey with no benefits and no future. Every one of them has six figures of debt to deal with. If you can get your law degree cheaper in the UK (and I know many who have), come here and get the LLM and practice, at least you’d be a candidate who stands out from the crowd.

From Berkeley’s website…

Financial Aid and Scholarships

In general, UC Berkeley does not have scholarships or financial aid available to entering undergraduate students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States. International applicants are encouraged to explore scholarship opportunities from private sources.

You may be confusing merit scholarships for int’l grad students or very small scholarships that might be associated with a major…like $500 or so.

“I plan on practicing in the US”

If you don’t already have a legal permanent resident status, don’t count on that. In order to get a permanent job here, you would need to find a sponsor for an H-1B (work) visa. In order to get you that visa, the sponsor would have to be able to demonstrate that they can’t find anyone to hire who doesn’t need a visa. Considering the number of unemployed and under-employed recent law school graduates in the US who are citizens or legal permanent residents, it isn’t likely at all that you are going to be able to get a job that comes with H-1B sponsorship.

You would be better off to complete law school in the UK, get a job with a multi-national firm that has offices in the US, and then look for a position in one of those offices.

With your stats you should consider Rice. They have a number of half and full tuition scholarships for outstanding internationals
