Will I really be able to transfer from a ccc in 2-3 years?

Hi everyone, I'm going to be attending saddleback community college as a freshman this August. I was wondering if it's still possible to transfer in 2-3 years from a community college with all these problems with classes being full and all. I wouldnt have to stay for more than three years to complete 60-65 units would I? I really can't afford to waste that much time at a community college, and then spend another 2-3 years at a UC on top of that. Please give me your opinion on this issue.

If you have enough motivation, which shouldn’t be an issue if you’re posting here, you should be able to pull it off. I started at IVC last Fall and petitioned my way into one of the most demanded courses (Writing 1 Honors). I’m on track to complete my 60 units by next Spring, and if you have the willpower you shouldn’t have a problem.

Watch MySite like a hawk, join the Honors program for priority registration, and things will work out. In any case, your place in registration is proportionate to the number of units you take. Two years is very doable, and I don’t see you staying more than three.

Good luck!

Thank you for the reply. I’m planning on taking about 12-15 units per semester, but I’m too late to receive priority registration in the honors program for this fall. Do you still think I have a chance at getting done in two years? I don’t have any other units under my belt either, so would that make it worse?

go to other C.C if you have to get the class.

Split up mon/wed at one school and commute on tues/thur if you have to. always an option

use and abuse multiple CCs if you must.
online courses from anywhere and everywhere…
take summer courses when you must.

knock out courses you need to do in a sequence first(EG: if you need to do calculus 2, you’ll neec calc1 and possibly precalc first, make this set of coruses first priority)
knock out English 1 and English 2(or philosophy) ASAP

and that’s about all there is to it.

Do IGETC, do your prereqs from [Welcome to ASSIST](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>http://assist.org/) and you’re set for the UCs and CSUs

Make friends that will hold classes for ya. If you are really desperate, you can always resort to cash. Mass petition the first week and attempt to get as many classes as you can.

what you mean by mass petitioning on the first week. Don’t you just get on the wait list and hope to get in?

@ leuz im pretty sure they are talking about going the first day, and seeing if the teacher will let you add. i have only tried that twice, but i got in both times. ^_^

Not all schools have implemented the waitlist system yet.

i know people who have transferred in 1.5 years , im a 3 yearer, its all up to you and your courseload. if you take 18 units for each semester and 6 in the summer than you are at 60… most UC’s dont accept winter transfers any longer, but thats not my point.

I was in a similar spot as you. I knew my local community colleges had full classes, so I was worried about getting into them and graduating on time. What I did was plan all my classes ahead (pre-reqs, AA stuff, IGETC), joined the honors program to get priority registration, and go from there. I’ve gotten 100% of the classes I wanted to take and will be applying to transfer this fall.

It’s possible. Just plan ahead, work hard, and take at least 15 units to keep it all up. Good luck!
