i also was/am involved in clubs and I do cross country and track, and have a few volunteer hours in I’m not sure if I want to run in college yet, and am looking into majoring in marketing, law, criminal justice, or film I know my grades aren’t superb but will a C ruin my chances of colleges accepting me I am yet to take the SAT or my AP exams and still have a semester left before grades are final I’m just so nervous
Don’t worry. Bring that grade to a B and you’re good.
In addition, your course rigor is excellent. Rigor+ bringing a C to a B is more important than an A in an easy course.
However why aren’t you taking AP Spanish? This will hurt you with Questbridge colleges (considering your course rigor I’m assuming you’re aiming for Questbridge colleges).
Majors: marketing nowadays requires a strong background in business analytics/data science/statistics. It means taking honors calculus or calculus AB next year.
Criminal Justice is not a good major unless your goal is to be a police or corrections officer. Criminology is the legitimate major.
For law, which is a post- college program, you need a major that required a lot of reading and writing - philosophy, English, political science are typical.
Do you have a job?
Has your avid class started prepping you for standardized tests?
There are more than 3,000 4-year colleges in the US and the majority accept most of their applicants. On these forums you hear kids worrying about getting in to the most selective colleges, the ones that admit 15% or 10% or whatever of their applicants. But that is at most 50-75 colleges, which means you’ll still have plenty of choices no matter what. And one C won’t keep you out of even those.
I suggest reading a book about college admissions to understand the whole process, how to pick colleges that are a fit, etc. One I recommend is “Admission Matters” and there are many other good ones.
I’m actually taking ap calc ab next year so there’s that, and I didn’t take ap spanish because I wasn’t interested in further pursing it however at my school you can take an ap exam for a class you’re not in or have taken in the past but never did the exam. And we have started talking about standardized testing in avid we took a practice sat and have been working on khan academy.
If your school offers AP Spanish, for the colleges that offer the best financial aid, the best resources and opportunities, and the best outcomes, you must take it. It’s considered a core class and you cannot just take 2 years of a heritage language.
Colleges don’t want you ‘self studying’ for a test but actually taking a class.
AP Calc AB= nice.
Beside Calc AB and AP Spanish, you’ll need a science class, an English class, a History/social science class, and one class that shows what you’re interested in. Two of these should be APs if your GC thinks you can handle it (for total of 4).
Your stats look good to get into a selective school. When you take the ACT or SAT, doing practice tests is the best way to study and get your score up. Every school is a good school so make sure to find the one that is best for you!
not at the moment I do cross country and track and they take up most of my time however I have been looking at getting a summer job maybe? but I don’t know yet
