will i transfer from uncg?

hi i am a sophmore at uncg who just applied to chapel hill- I have a total 3.98 gpa for 3 semesters-i have completed all but one class for UNC's general ed requirement- joined the honors college and ald honors society. i didnt send in a reccomendation with my transfer application, but my essays were solid- and my bro attended unc.- however high school gpa was low around a 3.4 or something- and sat was under 1100. do i have a chance at all to become a junior at chapel hill?

I am in the same position as you are but your GPA is very impressive. I don’t think you will have any problem getting into UNC. Did you take any challenging classes? B/c UNC likes to see there transfer students to take many challenging classes. I have 3.693 GPA and I’ll have 80 hrs this May. My high school GPA was about 3.1. But in college I took very hard classes. I took classes that a normal junior or senior would take.

my classes arent anything impressive iwould say. They're just normal classes that a freshman - sophmore would take- spa 101-204, pre calculus, etc.. and i've completed all of my general education requirements so i will be studying solely for my major next semester. Id say the most impressive class is honors bio 111 other than that, its nothing that sets me apart. Are you a sophmore ? It sounds like you shouldnt have any problems getting into chapel hill with 80 hours. They might desire something higher than a 3.6 but if the classes are as hard as you mentioned id say you got a better chance than I do.

Yes, i am a Sohpmore in college but by the hrs i am junior. I would still be transfering as a junior. I took many hrs in the summer 05. You should not have any problem getting in. Your application looks very impressive.

Thanks,

guys, i am a parent of a senior applying to unc. i actually went to uncg and wanted to transfer to unc. i must tell you to do this if you can and you really want it. even though i liked uncg fine, i wish i had followed my heart and gone to unc. i visited it and loved it back then but felt intimidated (and i don't get intimidated) by the "young" kids there (I was already 21 and felt too old i guess!). i wish i have been as smart as i thought i was and gone ahead and made the switch. uncg was great but it was not my preference so here i am 25 years later....so go for it.

thedellhater: about how many Honors Course did you take?

haha i only took one honors course. the only reason i joined the honors program was so i could take a biology class that fit in with my scheduale. Im still thinking about going to med school so honors bio would have been a good start in science courses. Do you know of any statistics about transfer students getting in ? And dont you agree that April 25 is an annoying notification date?

I dont know any statistics about transfer students getting in but i do know what they look at in the application. You have no idea, i think they should notify students before rather than, making us wait until that date.

yea its rediculous. what school do you go to?

I am attending Western Carolina University and i hate it here..haha. Hopefully I’ll get into UNC. Do you happen to know what UNC’s average transfer GPA is?

I'm surprised you are even asking for chances dell. A 3.98 is a lock unless you've been convicted of armed robbery or something like that.

No i sure dont know the average gpa however there are a lot of posts on this site that discuss admissions and the average gpa you can probably find it there. I think you should be fine. I would assume the average is around 3.75 which means people are above it and below it. I think youre a shoe in though.

Just curious, WCUpatel- why do you want to transfer? I spent a summer at Western as part of a biology/geology summer program, and I really liked the school. I heard the social scene has a lot of drinking, though. I hope the terrible food at Brown Cafeteria isn't what's driving you away. :D

I have been at WCU for past two years and this college is okay but i feel that it's not for me. Yea, this college has good view and everything but there is nothing to do here. The nearest mall is like 1 hour away. Hahah. Oh and food up here, is so nasty.

Thanks for the weblink you provided above it helped out alot. I have like 3.7 GPA, will have 80 hrs this may and i am really scared that i am not gonna get in. I really dont want to come back to WCU. lol...i simply hate it here.
