Will IB Diploma make up for low testing scores?

I am an international student applying to several top schools in the states.
I am majorly worried about my scores and in general the 'academic' part of my application.
I only got 34 C (with 32 E/35 M/35 R/34 S/8 W) in the ACT (although my TOEFL writing score is 30 so it would hopefully make up for the low ACT Writing score), but I am predicted 45/45 in the IB Diploma. Can the latter compensate for the former (set of low scores)?

For Cornell, I also am required to submit SAT IIs, which unfortunately were Math II 780 and Chem 730 (I do not plan to do anything related to them at college). Will it hurt my chances severely too?

Any IB Diploma students that got into Ivies here? Thanks :D

What’s your SAT I scoring like?

The key thing is that your scores are in. So you can only control what’s ahead of you now. Pull out all the stops to make sure you get that 45. There’s no point worrying about what’s in the past.

Lots of IB students have been admitted to the Ivies. It’s not a barrier and is internationally respected.

I don’t see why you think a 34 on the ACT is “low”. It is in the top quarter of Cornell admitted students (although it may not be if you are applying to a more popular division):

Your scores are not low. A 34 C is extremely good and will not hurt your application. 780 and 730 subject tests won’t hurt your application either.

It is unlikely your IB scores will be available during the application process. I don’t think they are released until July, and most kids are packing by then.

However, I don’t think an ACT of 34 is low.

Your test scores are hardly low. The IB scores are excellent, but are not more valuable than the sea of students with 4.0 GPA. IB students tend to massively overrate what an IB diploma means.

Do not lose sleep over this.

ok first of all, the toefl score is probs only used to determine PROFICIENCY in english cause of the fact that you need to take it for watever the reason (im guessin international?)…secondly a 34 is NOT LOW AT ALLL…DONT LET ANYONE EVER EVERY tell you that it is low!! a 34 on the ACT puts you in the range for EVERY SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY… getting a 35 or a 36 is only marginally better and not by much! a 34 puts you in the 99 percentile of all test takers which is great! sorry if i seem to be freakin out but its the truth…

also the IB diploma, i agree with xiggi above, american univs are not as lovingly high impressed by 40+ IB scores then european schools might be cause the way things work in college adms in USA is different and there are LOTS of 3.9+s applying that have taken over 10+ (some even 20+) college level courses whether they be HL IB, AP, dual enrollment, A levels, etc… not saying that a 45/45 is not impressive, it def IS but its not as big of a deal as people might put into it…basically its not your ticket to the movie, its your ticket to the gate…

All. Clearly the guy is trolling you big time. “Will my IB diploma help my low test scores?” (34 ACT). Makes me want to slap him upside the head for dissing kids who are working their axx off to get a 30 or 32. What kind of person comes on a college board and trolls like this?

I got a 16 but in writing score of 8, the writing score does not disturb your overall score.
