Will it be community college for me? :(

Hello!

Thanks for reading! Sorry if you were offended by the title. I had to get attention somehow. I hope I don't have to go to community college though.

Female. Asian (but I did not report that).

UWGPA: 3.5 W: 3.9 UC: 3.84
No ranking system. Rough estimation UW would put me in top 30% of my high school. UC in top 25% (they sent me a letter about it).

ACT: Composite Score-30

Major:
1) Economics 2) Biotechnology 3) Bioengineering
I applied mostly as an Economics/Business major to most of my schools. Two or three I applied as a Biotech/Bioeng major.

Essays- Publics was about my interests in business (I manage my own portfolio on the stock market) the other about my perspective as both a student and a teacher. USC about dance. Stanford and UChicago was about my name (everyone who read this really liked it)

Recs- Math teacher (great rec) and a Literature teacher (from above avg to good rec)

Schools- UC's [Berk, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCSC, UCR] USC, Stanford (crapshoot, I know) and UChicago

Thanks! I'll chance you back

Don’t bet on getting into Chicago. I applied last year with a 33 ACT, salutatorian of my class, excellent EC’s, good recs, awards galore and got waitlisted. But I do think you’ll get into all of the UC’s, Berkeley included.

Well, the title did work somewhat…

30 ACT is barely lower than USC’s average/standard (31) and the GPA is good but not great. The ECs look pretty good. That said, I think that UChicago will be a reach, USC and UCB are low reaches, UCLA is a match, and the rest are in/low match.

Chance me please! (and read the last couple of posts by me in there) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/621725-took-risk-blew-any-hope-left.html

Thanks for your feedback!

the title worked because i was planning on coming here and making fun of you , now that you said you were joking i cant :(

bumppp :):)

being instate will really help you
you should get into all of the UCs
Id say that Chicago is a low-reach
I don’t even wanna talk about Stanford after their slaughtering of this year’s early applicants

To answer your question: No I do not think you will be going to community college. Your GPA is somewhat low (but that is probably because you go to a competitive school) but you do have an excellent ACT score and good/okay SAT II Scores. You have some good extracurricular activities and overall I think you are pretty competitive. Since you live in California I think you got a good shot at all the UC schools and as for Stanford there is a very low chance in getting in but there’s always a possibility. UChicago I think you have a decent chance to get if your essays were great. The only thing that is really hurting you chances is your UW GPA. I wish you luck and I hope you get into the school you most desire to attend.

well pretty much all of those UCs you could get into with berk and UCLA at small reaches but still 2/3 chance of acceptance
you MIGHT get into USC but unless god wrote your recommendations, i dont think you will get into Stanford or Chicago

Thanks, I appreciate your comments.

If you are reading this, link your chance thread. I will chance you back!

I think all the UCs are matches except:
UCSD - High match if not slight reach because GPA is below their average a little
UCLA - slight reach to reach
UCB - reach

You definitely shouldn’t go to community college! Those are great!
Your gpa is pretty good, not AMAZING, but you do have awesome EC’s to make up for it, which will impress the admission officers for sure, especially since they are leadership positions.

Your ACT is decent, but I suggest you take the SAT’s, it’ll make up for your ACT score and shows rigor.

I think you’ve got a great chance at all of the UC’s, especially the ‘lower’ ones like UCD, UCSC and UCR. Pretty guaranteed. UCLA and Berk are really random in their selection sometimes, but I do know that they tend to play the numbers game (although the admissions essays are extremely extremely important). As far as Stanford goes, it’ll be a stretch, but I think you should turn in an application nonetheless - you never know! (Keep in mind that the avg freshman gpa is 3.9… Princeton’s is 3.8!)

Make sure you have safeties, though.
What I like to do is apply to one ‘almost-impossible’ schools, three reach schools, and two safeties. (but then again, I’m application happy, ha ha)

Good luck :)

I think you’re good for the UCs and USC, probably not Stanford, and maybe on Chicago. Good luck!

Thanks for your responses!

I can see you getting into UCLA, but Berekely might be a little hard…University of Chicago places a lot of weight on the essays…

update: Got into UCR for bioengineering, Davis for biotechnology, rejected from SD :frowning: Still waiting on the rest.

Oh and I don’t think I mentioned this on the original post, but I’m also waiting on Georgetown (early action deferral).

Just for anybody who may use this thread for reference. I got into UCB for economics, spring semester (don’t know what they saw in me at all, lol), and was put on the waiting list at Georgetown. Rejected at UCLA, Stanford and Chicago. In for economics at USC and UCSB. In undeclared at Irvine. :)

Right now I’m deciding between Davis and Cal. I would prefer bioengineering/biotechnology over economics, but Berkeley is Berkeley. :)
