Will It Be Enough?

Hi. After finally choosing the school of my dreams, I'm going into a big upset. I've always known that I could apply for financial aid and get some help with college. In the fall, I'll be a junior in high school. As I'm preparing for college, I'm realizing that financial aid may not be enough. My mother is a daycare teacher who makes about $700 every 2 weeks (I believe) and my step father hasn't worked in almost 7 (yes 7 if not more) years! I'm the oldest and the first to go to college. I'd love to go to college. It's my dream to go to Emerson College in Boston, yet I'm not sure I can afford even to breathe the air. But will financial aid and my A's and B's be enough to get in our am I just fooling myself? Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the long post

From what I’ve learned, most colleges give financial aid based on need. Many also have merit scholarships, but the majority have need based aid. If your stats are high enough for Emerson, which they seem to be, then I’m sure they’ll consider you for financial aid. Don’t worry man, it’ll work out.

The only thing I can say is that you should apply to a bunch of state schools or schools you feel will give you a good scholarship! The colleges always advertise as “covering full financial need” but you really need to be a good negotiator to get it!

I hope it works out! Good luck!

Nobody should ever be denied admission because they can’t afford it… I’m pretty sure someone in your situation could get the adequate need.
:)

Thank you both. I still have a little time before college but i’m not going to wait last minute. I’ll keep all this in mind :)

Most prestigious colleges have good financial aid, maybe not as much as you want but they’d offer a lot if you are in need. Maybe apply RD so you can compare fin aid and merit money.

Wats RD?

Am I like the only one who feels this way because it seems like I am. The other people I know in this situation either skipped college or did community college
