Will it be too late?

I live in Canada but have established Tex. residency. But, since I don't go to a TX HS I'll be considered under the 'in-state non top 10%'.

I am going to apply on Sunday and get my transcripts, etc. sent out early next week.

Is it too late though? Will I get rejected or is it fine? I know UT is rolling so I'm worried that the non-top 10% status and applying late will come back to bite me.

Stats:
2300 SAT I (1510 M+CR)
4.0 UW (we don't have weighted, but my course load is most rigorous)
val (1/340)
sat ii: pending, dec. 4th-math ii, january - chem

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I'd be a Bio/Psych/Neuro (if UT has that) major (premed-type) if that helps at all.

EDIT x 2:
Also, is too late to get any merit aid or anything of that like? Right now UT is not my top choice but if I got some aid that was worth around 8k-10k I'd seriously consider UT. (weather is a nice bonus for a guy dying for warmer weather :P)

I'm guessing that for merit aid they'd recognize that my rank if actually in the top 10% and will look at what my real numbers are but I still have no idea if I could get anything.

Hook 'Em

Damn! Is the deadline for admission srly dec. 1st???

Did they change it???

Yes, the deadline was Dec 1st. Also, I’m not sure that UT admission is considered rolling. While they are quick to notify those in the top 8% of admission, most review admits wait until early spring. Am I wrong?

Are they lenient with the deadline? Can I still apply? Damn, I’m so upset. Did they change the deadline just for this year?

I think you are out of luck for next fall. The deadline was yesterday, the first. I think last year it was Dec. 15th. They have been moving it forward for about 3 years. For the class of 09, it changed from Feb 1st to Jan 15th, for the class of 10 it moved to Dec. 15th and for the class of 11 it moved to Dec. 1st. I think this is where they plan on leaving it. Not trying to make you feel worse, but they have been advertising these dates for 3 years.

Wow, I can’t believe it. I don’t know how I’m going to tell my parents this…

you should probably call them, but you might be screwed

or you could just go to tamu you know

^Yea, I will apply to TAMU and if I end up going to TAMU, I will try to transfer after my first year to UT. I am going to finish my TAMU app IMMEDIATELY after I get home from my Math II test on Saturday. I’m not screwing this one up!

Is it easy to transfer from TAMU to UT? I looked up SAT I scores of TAMU and they aren’t very high so I think I could do very well first year and get a great GPA.

seeing that you have great SATs and are the valedictorian of the class (assuming that speaks to your general intelligence and work ethic), yeah you would probably be able to get into any department at UT after transferring with a good GPA.

Also, bio/psych/neuro (in the college of natural sciences) are not hard to get into for UT. Even if you don’t get a great GPA (not saying you should slack off) you could probably manage to get in with a mid 3.0.

Good luck, you’ll probably make it into great schools other than UT and TAMU with your stats anyway.

OK, thanks for the info. redhotsrock! I will be sure to apply to TAMU and get that app out by this weekend. I may even apply to U of Houston if I feel the need to.

Also, I don’t understand the deadlines for UT-Dallas:
http://www.utdallas.edu/enroll/apply/fees.php</a></p>

The way I’m interpreting this is that the deadline is July 1st. (I’m a Resident) How is that even possible?! And, would UT-Dallas or TAMU be better for a premed?

ViggyRam, you will get brainwashed at TAMU and end up wanting to stay there sorry

and for pre med there is no difference between attending UT, TAMU, UT-D, texas tech, LSU, texas state, or basically any state school. Unless you are going to like a top 20 school they don’t care about you school, just your GPA.

And also since UT uses the plus minus system it would be harder to get a high GPA, but considering yours stats I’m sure you could still do it

Could you apply for Spring 2012? I think that application opens a bit later, so maybe you don’t have to wait a whole year. Also, transfer admits are pretty generous at UT after all the automatically admitted “top 8%” from the sub-performing high schools in Texas drop out or flunk out. UT has to replace them somehow!

hahahaha yeah, i did a double-take when i saw that for the first time too. UTD admissions actually close in july, and then reopen for the next year in june lol.

it doesn’t really matter where you do premed, but UTD has no college life whatsoever. i would recommend TAMU over UTD for sure because UTD is a commuter campus (therefore no campus life, same goes for UH), there are an unusual amount of fresh off the boat indians there who stare at fellow indians for no reason, and you’ll just miss out on a lot of ‘the college experience.’ However, there is a high chance that you will get a full ride+stipends to UTD, and probably a great deal (probably a bit less though) at TAMU as well.

I guess that might not matter for you if you plan to transfer to UT anyway, but do take it into consideration.

^But wait. I’m confused. The deadline for UT-Dallas has passed so I can’t even apply (I do not want to take time off, I want to start at the normal time that others do which is fall semester, so UT-Dallas is out of the question).

So, basically, I’m limited to UH and TAMU. Do both use ApplyTexas? Also, are there any other UT campuses that have their deadlines in the future and that I can still apply to (Arlington is the only other UT I’ve heard of)?

If both TAMU and UH use ApplyTexas, I’ll apply to both and see what I get in terms of money. If I get a full ride or something from TAMU and/or UH then I guess I’d consider to stay there all four years but I’d need to basically make sure that I can get into UT-Southwestern or BCOM because, realistically, not many other top med schools are going to take a bunch of UH or TAMU kids (unless I’m a superstar applicant).

EDIT: If I apply this late am I still in the running for large scholarships though?

There’s UT Arlington, UT Dallas, UT Pan-American, UT El Paso, UT San Antonio, UT Tyler, UT Permian Basin, and UT Brownsville I believe.

I don’t know of any besides UTSA (I live here!), and their deadline is July 1 for fall applications.

ETA: applytexas has the apps for all public texas universities.

Does anyone know if there is any sort of late fee I can pay and still apply to UT (Austin)?

Will begging and pleading work or is the deadline super firm? I can finish ApplyTexas tonight and get the transcripts, etc. sent off on overnight mail on Monday if that helps.

i’m pretty sure UTD’s app hasn’t closed

[Application Fees and Deadlines - UT Dallas](http://www.utdallas.edu/enroll/apply/fees.php?nocookies=false)

^So that July date has not passed? Is it the July that has yet to come or the one that has passed?

And what about UT-Austin’s deadline? If I had it all into them by the 8th would they automatically throw it away or are they flexible? Does anyone know?
