I have recently dropped my Spanish 4 class due to the horrible foreign language department my school has. The class was a combined Spanish 4/Spanish 5 class and the teacher was horrible. I didn't think it was fair that I was being taught the same thing as an upper level class. Anyways, I dropped it and am now taking a class called Combating Intolerance which is just about dealing with social diversity and what not. Do you think this will effect my admission? I already got accepted and plan on emailing admissions and letting them know why I dropped the class. Do you think I should explain why I dropped the class (because of bad teachers/department)? Or should I focus on the new class I decided to join?

It depends, is this Spanish 4 apart of your second year of a language?

Usually my school group them as Spanish year 1 ( include spanish 1&2), Spanish year 2 ( include spanish 3&4). From my understanding Michigan State University require 2 years of a language or strongly recommand you take two years of a foreign language.

Tilo–the correct word to have used in the title of your thread is “affect”, not “effect”. “Effect” when used as a verb means to cause or to result in.

coolbrezze makes a good point. It probably won’t matter, but if State does require 2 years now (it was only strongly recommended 4 years ago when I applied), it could be an issue. I would be surprised if they un-admitted you though. Do they require final transcripts of your last semester grades? If not, I’d just let it go.
dg5052- way to contribute something useful.

BBBSG–Sorry you don’t think knowing and using words correctly is useful. Unfortunately, that is the case with too many people of all ages today.

Dg- LOL you’re right. I wrote that at 12am and was exhausted. I’ll make sure to correct myself next time.

Coolbreeze-I have taken three years of Spanish, this would have been my fourth year of language.

BearsBeets-I’m not sure if they require final transcripts, but I know my school always sends them to the college we plan on going. I don’t want them to just see that I dropped a class without notifying them. I think it would be better if I let them know.
