Will it hurt me that I signed up for the last orientation day?

I ended up choosing the orientation in August since all the other dates were booked. My parents were not sure what days they would be off so that’s why I didn’t sign up right away. It never crossed my mind that this might affect the availability of the classes I would get.

Questions:
Will I not have the advantage of getting classes with the best ranking professors and the times I want?
I really don’t want early morning classes, do you think those later classes will be filled up by my orientation?
Will I still be able to sign up for the classes I need for my major?
Will I get stuck with the terrible & highly difficult classes?
Will they make sure I’m placed in classes at my level (based on score reports & etc)?

OR the date of my orientation doesn’t really matter because every student will have an equal opportunity to get the classes they want / need and possibly with the times they want?

I know it might be something silly to worry about but I would rather know now than to have it hit me the day of.

Hi! So I myself am an entering freshman and I registered for Orientation quite early, first session, actually, but I HAVE asked current UCR students questions similar to those you are asking!

You might not get the classes you want since you’re in the final session. There may be a lot of freshman seeking the same courses as you, so a freshman in Session 2, 3, etc. may get the class before you. However, there is still some chance of you getting classes you want.

Later classes COULD possibly be filled up, again, it depends on the other freshmen who registered earlier.

You most likely will be able to sign up for the classes you need to take for your major, BUT maybe not in the order you want to take them. (i.e. if you plan to take X course during Fall but it is filled up, you might take Y course during Fall instead of X)

You have to make sure you send in your score reports and transcripts to ensure that UCR KNOWS whether you are credited for a course or not. Subsequently, YOU are the one registering for the courses, so if you KNOW you are credited for a math course, register for the one ABOVE it.

My friends who currently attend UCR, and my cousin who has friends at UCR all told me that it really depends on what the other freshmen choose, but the later the session, that harder it can be to get the classes you want.

Hope I could help in any way!
