Will it improve my chances if i take SAT II's?

Im planning to do computer science at universities like Stanford, Carnegie Mellon or UCB. I've heard that i wont be competitive at all in admissions if i didnt take SAT ii's as everyone does them and i will be at a disadvantage if dont do them( i know they're not compulsory but they sound like they are) Also, which SATII should i do if i plan to do computer science?

95% of admitted students at Stanford submitted SAT2 scores. If the school recommend or require SAT2, you should try to get two great scores in SAT2 and submitted them.

Math II and Physics, if you can, probably?

bump.

i didnt take it

Some places require them to get in, check their websites. If they don’t and you don’t take them, I don’t think you’d be penalized.

bump.

For competitive schools that recommend SAT2 (like Stanford and UCB), you should treat it as required. CMU require SAT2 disregarding if you submit SAT or ACT.
In other words, it would be a disadvantage, or even disqualified, if you do not submit SAT2 scores for these schools.
See the document in the link below:

Any school that recommends, like the ones you listed, you should take them. However, unless you score very high (and trust me when I say high is not the same score as the normal SATs – google SAT II average scores and you will see). Then choose the two SAT IIs that you think you can score the highest in – do some practice tests from books first to gauge your best two. You might be surprised at what you learn.

Are the SAT II modeules much more difficult than the first one?

The SAT Subject test detailed knowledge in each subject, presumably those where you’re the strongest.
For instance, SAT CR is basic verbal reasoning, SAT SUbject English Literature tests literature.
You can choose a foreign language to skip a class in college, or chemistry/physics/biology if you want to major in science…
SAT Quantitative assumes Pre algebra, Algebra1&2 and Geometry, whereas SATMAth 2 will assume Trigonometry and Calculus. (the exception is Math1, roughly at the same level as math on the reasoning test but it’s almost useless in that unviersities won’t consider it for stem majors, humanities majors would be better served with another test, and the curve is insane).
Go to the website and look at the recommended preparation and the test questions.

^ Math2 covers up to pre-calculus, not calculus.

If a school says that SAT subject tests are recommended or suggested, then in essence they’re required de facto- you’d hate to guess what could have been if you don’t take them.

so if i were to do computer science, which would be the ideal tests to do?

Probably math 2, one science (physics?), and one non-science (because STEM kids tend to do math and 2 sciences, and you want to show you’re academically well-rounded, as good at Spanish as at math, or as good at Literature as at Physics  )
Note that only TWO subject tests are required. The third one is just a safety or to display versatility.

If you would like to attend those prestigious universities, SAT2’s become very important. They test your knowledge in the subject, not necessarily problem solving skills.
I would do 2 STEMs and 1 humanities.
