I suggest I want to do premed in an essay but have a bad HS gpa?

I have good test scores, but my HS gpa is probably at the 25th percentile. Oh, and I've earned a few B's in math. :(

Having a low high school gpa will hurt you. Do you have a low h.s. gpa?

Colleges know that most students major in something completely different than they anticipated majoring in as high school students, so your predicted choice of major won’t count against you. Having a low h.s. gpa could, though, hurt you.

It’s not ridiculously low. It’s a 3.8.

I understand that it’s still going to be risky, but I do have quite a few EC’s and my test scores are at the 75th percentile. I’m hoping that will somewhat offset the gpa problem.

I also got 5’s on a bunch of AP tests, so I’m hoping that will add some perspective to the B+'s?

Sounds like you go to some kind of school that attracts high achieving students, so I doubt your rank will hurt you unless you’re applying to public colleges that fill up their classes with students in the top 10% of their high school class.

Yeah, my school’s not bad. It’s not one of the “top 50 on the state” type of schools, but there is a group of students that performs well.

And my school doesn’t rank anymore. However, it used to list rank based off the unweighted gpa (which is really annoying because there actually are a bunch of people who take 0-1 AP/honors classes and have a high gpa).
