Will it look bad if this is my senior year schedule?

AP Calc BC
AP Chem
AP Biology
Anatomy
Honors Forensics
AP English IV

Would it be better if I dropped Anatomy for AP Spanish?
My guidance counselor says that taking 4 science courses makes me look not well-rounded, so I should take spanish instead, but I hate spanish.

if you hate spanish then you don’t have to take it, but taking 4 science courses is probably a bad idea. even if it’s what you want to do, colleges don’t like to see you “majoring” in high school. i’m dropping science to take 2 histories, and even that is supposedly questionable even though i like my decision, so i’m pretty sure 4 classes in 1 subject could hurt you. if you hate spanish, i’d recommend dropping anatomy for a history course- just try to add something in the humanities to make you more well rounded.

???

Your schedule is fine. Take the classes you want. And remember: it’s only your senior year! Don’t kill yourself with work yet!

anyone???

In my opinion, your schedule portrays that you are a hard-working student. I give you props. I took it easy this year, so I definitely admire you for carrying on with a tough workload for your SENIOR YEAR. Haha. XD If science is your thing, cool. I like English, therefore I tend to take English-related courses. I don’t see anything wrong with your schedule. Hope that helps! :)

Listen to your guidance counselor. He’s spot on.

It does look a bit lop-sided without a foreign language or history class. Is Forensics a full year? (in our district, it’s just a semester).

Many colleges like to see 4 years of foreign language - my daughter & most of her math/science friends are taking Spanish 5 this year. It’s a fairly easy class for kids who’s heads might explode if they took another AP class.

The 4 APs you list are some of the toughest out there, especially taking Bio AND Chem. What sort of AP experience do you have already? If you haven’t taken many, I would lighten your load or you will be hating yourself on May 1, 2012.

I think it depends in part on how much Spanish you’ve had–some kids are already in Spanish 5 as juniors, for example. If I were you, I’d consider replacing one of those science classes with history or something similar.

Science is economical and juicy, but you are not applying for graduate school are you? Try to be versatile, take history, art, music or other language instead! That’s better

okay thank you

Have you met your graduation requirements in history or social studies? Have you had any AP or honors in those? Four sciences in one year does seem like a lot - consider lab requirements and the like.

My son’s proposed senior year schedule is:

AP Physics C
AP Bio
AP Comparative World Gov’t
AP Micro/macro economics
2 one semester English electives (whatever fits in his schedule) The AP English teacher at our school is bad and he doesn’t really like English as it is.
AP Calc BC
gym

His GC wants him to take only one science AP (he’s had honors bio, chem and physics).

He is thinking of possibly adding another elective, maybe in law (so he can take a class with his 10th grade brother). He dropped language after 2 years since he has no desire to attend a top school. He doesn’t quite get that he’s going to have to take LOTE wherever he goes! However, he does that his sister solved the language issue by taking 2 semesters over the summer at a local CC - she got the credits but not the grade.

Four sciences is probably too many - it’ll give the impression that you’re not well-rounded and you don’t have interests or talents outside of science (whether or not that’s actually true).

AP Spanish would be worthwhile, as more and more schools are looking for four years of foreign language.

ive had:
english- 2 honors, 1 ap
math- 3 honors, 1 ap
history- 3 honors
science- 4 honors
spanish- 3 honors

I’ve fulfilled all my requirements except english, which is why i have AP IV scheduled for next year.
