When one is filling out the application, should he/she mention taking SAT prep classes during the summer? Will it look impressive because colleges will think that I'm actually doing something ptoductive with my life during the summer? Or will it look bad because I need to rely on a tutor to help me on the SAT? Thanks.

That’s like putting that you got math tutoring. It’s irrelevant and unnecessary.

It’s not something that’s appropriate to list as a summer activity.

No.

Wait? So we can’t put it on the application? What should we do then? I spent a whole summer bringing up my SAT score (and it worked) with an SAT prep company. Any advice please?

What you should do is not include it. It won’t help your application, but it could certainly hurt.

As the above posters said, I really don’t think it will help your application to mention it. Colleges definitely want to see that you’re doing something with your summer, but probably more along the lines of work, community service, etc…

That’s the only thing you did over the summer?

Yikes.

Nope, what I meant was that although I did volunteer over the summer a lot, my main focus was bringing up my SAT score.

Well the result was a higher SAT score, which they will see.

Why not put all the times you stayed after schoo to review too?

But really I’m not holding it against you but I would say putting an SAT prep course would have the opposite effect…

no, I advised D1 not to put that.
