With this new tuition increase, my parents and I can not really afford IU. Ohio will let me pay in-state tuition my 2nd year, which is a big relief.
Unfortunately, IU was my number 1 choice and I got accepted as a transfer student. Part of me wishes I had gotten rejected at IU so I could have at least put it behind me. I feel that IU-Kelley is better than Ohio-Fisher and I just can't accept the fact that I'll have to go to OSU instead of IU. Also, I'm sure the recruiting is better at Kelley, too.
I know that it won't matter in the long run if I work hard since I'm planning on getting my MBA, but still it's tough to have to turn down choice #1.
Is it going to make a difference or am I just wasting my time thinking about this? I am a finance major by the way.

haha me too. ik how u feel. I'm deciding between IU and Wisconsin (In state) and Minnesota. IU is hands down the best biz school. You'll regret it not coming to Kelley cuz it's the best place in the world!

This is interesting. My dad spoke with the ExecVP/CFO of his company today and explained my situation. He told us that since I'm planning on getting an MBA, it won't make a huge difference whether I go to IU or OSU, especially since they are so closely ranked. Also, the price difference made him lean towards OSU. He is an IU MBA grad by the way.
I'm going to call IU tomorrow and ask if there is any way to get in-state tuition after year one. If not, guess it's Ohio State.

So go to Ohio State and then get your MBA at Indiana.

Here's a guy who went to West Virginia University and then got his MBA at Indiana:

25 most powerful people in business - John Chambers (11) - FORTUNE

P.S. When Chambers got to Cisco, it's sales were $1 billion/year--now they are at $35 billion/year.

Yea I'm gonna go to Ohio State. I'm feeling better about it now. My goal is to get into a top 10 MBA program but that's a ways off. I think I should be alright if I hit the books pretty hard at OSU.

I wouldnt worry about recruiting at OSU- my D and I just toured Fisher on a plain old (snowy) day in February and as we walked into career services there were no less that 5 students waiting to be interviewed by reps from major companies who had made the trek to interview osu seniors- the tour guide said this goes on every day..i have been on no less than 10 tours w/ my D and this was a first to actually see students being recruited rather than talking about it- very impressive!!! (unfortunately my D also loves IU and the rate increases are killing me since OSU gave her the buckeye scholarship (7200 per year) and u of south carolina offered her a major scholarship that would reduce her entire tuition and room and board to only $12,500 per year all four years!-- but noooooooo she wants IU!!!)

IU is the school esp. for business

so does iu not give in state tuition after one year? what about if you bought a small piece of property in Indiana. would you be able to claim residency in Indiana after one year?

Nope. We tried everything. We're having to do a ton to get the deal in Ohio. Indiana flat out said NO to it since I'm not 21. Under 21 and it goes by where your parents live no matter what.
I should be alright at Ohio. I'm just going to work extra hard to make connections, be involved in clubs, and get my GPA as high as possible. I'm also looking into honors but it probably won't work out since I'm a transfer student. They said I can graduate "with distinction" if I do a research project or something with a prof my last year though. So that's an option to give me a possible slight boost. I'm trying to be positive about this whole thing

Ya I wrote a letter of appeal for them to consider me for some merit scholarships today so we'll see what that does. I might just go to msu because its a state school. U of Mich has a really hard grading curve so its a lot harder to get good grades. I think good connections, good grades, and good extracurriculars will leave us both ok.

Fisher Business School at OSU is ranked 13 vs Kelley School of Business which is now ranked 19. Both are excellent business schools with internships and job fairs. DS was a direct admit into both and was all set to join his brother at IU, but his visit at OSU this week has him now wanting to go there. I don't think you can go wrong at either school.

Also, go here and scroll down to business to see a nice list of OSU graduates who did very well for themselves:

Residency: la sigh.

I'm going into my third year here, with a permanent residence and a soon-to-be-fiance in Bloomington, paying taxes and everything to the state of Indiana, but I have long since resigned myself to out-of-state status. For a school who can pay their basketball coach hundreds of thousands each year, they sure are stingy with tuition :/
