My friend, who's a year older than me, got into an Ivy last year and currently goes there. We were in quite a lot of pretty prestigious orchestras together, and we both happen to be tone-deaf. Naturally, being tone-deaf posed a pretty significant obstacle to becoming as good at music as I am now, not to say becoming involved in music in the first place, and I'm writing an essay about it for the same school my friend attends. However, my also-tone-deaf friend also wrote an essay on the same topic for the same school. Would my essay seem really fishy to admissions officers? My friend and I are pretty different outside of music, but we do share passions for science and math and stuff.

Thanks!
