Will MIT go to their wait list?

Hey Chris, I was wondering when MIT thinks they'll know if they will go to the wait list or not. Now that it is May 2, do they know how many people accepted?

I was told by an admissions officer that waitlist news will be revealed around May 9, to give those with financial aid appeals time.

Good luck!

That is certainly possible, but historically speaking, the 9th of May would be ridiculously early. Remember that 3 May is the POSTMARK deadline for enrollment decisions, and that MIT has admitted students from all over the world.

I would be extremely surprised if they had a sufficiently clear picture of the class by 9 May to determine how many students they might take off the waitlist, and even then it would take weeks to determine WHO they might take off the waitlist. Now I am not an admissions officer, and I have no official information, but jogo84’s message did not ring true to me.

Mikalye, look at Matt McGann’s posts in may the last couple of years.
The earlier waitlist announcements occurred on 13 may and some kids were accepted off it as early as 2 days later.
I’m the MIT waitlist too. I’m surprised there aren’t full fledged MIT waitlist forums for this year on CC as there are for other schhols. Didn’t MIT offer 1000 kids a spot on the waitlist this year? I would suspect alot more chatter than this.

*I’m on the waitlist too.
