I am EA’ing to MIT, majoring in biology. I have received straight A’s all throughout my high school career, taking fairly challenging courses. I’m concerned about two things: 1) I’m taking AP Calc AB (dropped out of BC, already regretting it) as a senior and 2) I’m taking 5 AP’s this year, and currently have 2 B’s ap in physics and calculus. will MIT ask to see my first quarter grades before possibly accepting me, and will they deny me for these 2 B’s? Thanks in advance for any help, appreciate it.
When you apply, you are generally asked to supply your most current grades. If you submit your application before your first quarter grades go on your transcript, they will probably not be reported.
Admission to extremely high-level schools like MIT are honestly a crapshoot for students with perfect/near-perfect grades. It is more likely to be influenced by extracurricular activities and your writing style on your application than the first two B’s you’ve ever made. Even then, they can only take so many students, and when one is as good as another, it may come down to random selection.
I did not report my quarter grades because they are not accurate representations of what will be on my transcript. My school did grades by semesters. So they perform a weighted average of first quarter, second quarter, and midterms. This means that you shouldn’t have to list any grades until the FUN Form in February. And of course, if you are admitted to MIT during Early Action, then they won’t say anything about your grades unless you get a C. (In that case, they would just shoot you an email and ask if everything’s ok. That’s all.) You will also need to send your final transcript during the summer if you are admitted of course.
