I am applying EA to MIT, but I am the least likely candidate for MIT. Will MIT look through the whole application? or will they just stop after they see how my GPA is low, my rigor is bad, my test scores are poor, but alright extracurriculars? and by bad gpa I don't mean like a 3.8, I mean lower.

They will look through the whole thing. They have to, it’s a holistic approach. Even if you had a -7.3 GPA they’d look through the whole thing, but you had better make sure you catch their attention with something special that’s not academic. But, if you don’t have anything, why apply MIT?

Why apply? Because it’s MIT, and it’s been a dream school for me. I hope when they see my passion they’ll come across a 1 in 11,000 passion.

Then do it. Do it, and make sure you put as much passion into it as you can. I’ve told many people before, even if they don’t have the stats, if a school has been their dream school for a long time, apply, because if you don’t later on you will regret it. You just came across as really nonchalant in your original post, sorry about that. But by all means, go for it, and I sincerely wish you the best of luck with it.

Another questions, will MIT know that painting and ceramics are electives? because I didn’t receive that great of a grade and I don’t want them to factor that into my GPA when they recalculate it. Basically, will MIT know which classes are electives?

If the classes are like painting and ceramics, then probably yes. But there are people who take extra science or math courses as electives, and in that case probably not. Just a suggestion…try posting your stats and stuff in the MIT forum, and see if you can get some students’ suggestions and advice, it would probably help you a lot.

I don’t mean to sound like I don’t want to post my stats, but I really don’t want to distinguish myself (EC’s and passions are obvious to my friends) because I’m sure people from my school ■■■■■ around CC.

I’ll pm you, Biggie Smalls, my stats.

I want some answers from some other people. Will MIT know whether or not Ceramics and Painting are electives? I’m not that great at art, but art is required. It doesn’t factor into our gpa, but MIT might recalculate it with the art which I don’t want.

You can always add that comment in the self report grades section

Another question

"List Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or A-level or O-Level courses taken or under way. (If you have taken the test, please list date and score.) "

My AP English Literature class allows us to take the Lit and Language exam. So do I put AP English Language in this section or just literature? Where do I put the Language?
