Will most of us have family to help move in?

I'm going to be pretty much alone on move-in day. I'm not sure what to bring, though. I want to bring as much as possible with me, but all I'm bringing in all is my laptop, clothes, and some essential toiletries. I don't really see a need in bringing much of anything else. I'm in a Rubin LCT, so I won't need much. Am I right in assuming this? Anyways, would it be insane to expect to bring all my clothes in one trip, while moving in alone? Straight from the taxi to the dorm?

Hey thats what im doing. Nobody to help me - I think we'll be ok.

idk, my parents are coming with me, they just want to check out the dorm, and go to a Q&A with the deans of Stern....idk...but i think bringing ALL your stuff isnt the best idea.....it's a lot....taxis may not fit it....who's watching your stuff while you lug it upstairs by yourself?

You may want to consider bringing a lamp and bed sheets. :) All my clothes will fit into one suitcase, which isn't exactly the heaviest of loads. I don't see a problem in making one trip, especially if you're going to use a taxi. Now if you're going to use the subway, that's a different story. By the way, do you happen to be from Connecticut? I'm searching for my roommate since he doesn't pick up his phone.

I am in Rubin LCT and I am alone :(

Maybe I could help you and you could help me...

Man, I'd prefer to be alone. Both my parents are coming and will be there until the welcome on Sunday night, and while I'm glad they're offering their help, I think they'd just get in the way of my meeting people and getting to know my roommate.

That and I'm a control freak, so they'd probably just get in the way of my un-packing and setting up my dorm.

yea...well my parents are gonna drop me off...let me do my thing...get my stuff unpacked....again i'm not bringing everything (i live 30 mins away from NYU) and then they are going to the parents Q&A with the deans of Stern....i dont think it's a bad thing that parents will help you lug and unpack...don't go crazy about the first day...i dont think anyone is gonna be in the mood to do much after the hassle of check-in/unpack....if it is as bad as everyone makes it out to be....

i live in florida. i dunno how the heck im gonna move all the way up there . i think i'll just bring clothes.

I'm with you misskoreanpie...I'm in TX. I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to do. I don't know if I should fly up alone and have my things shipped or drive up there with my dad (hopefully only a 2 day trip...). Ugh...

my dad is flying up with me.

Im from Southern California - its even farther, but im going to do most of my shopping there. No point in bringing a ton of crap i can get there.

but it's so EXPENSIVE in the city...i'm loading up in TX where everything is cheaper :)

I'm going there alone, but my cousin from New Jersey is helping me out. He told me to pack what I can pack and we'll buy the rest up there such as comforters, fans, etc..

well the plus of having lots of family members (aside from the extra helping hands) is the limit of the luggages. the more people, the more space in your luggage. i bought most of the things here in california (because it's cheap) that could easily fit into luggages, also not fragile if they throw them around (more than likely they will). But as for floor lamps and fridges, and tvs and appliances, i'm shopping there

haha, that's a good point...

Very few kids don't have family there to help on move in day. The thing you have to realize is that if you arrive by cab, you're going to have to unload all your stuff onto the sidewalk, so the cab can leave. You don't want to be leaving your stuff on the sidewalk unattended while you get your keys, check in, and start lugging stuff upstairs. If you're alone, don't bring more than you can carry upstairs yourself in one trip.

Ahh....

All alone :(

Well.. at least I could store my trash at my sister's apartment next to Columbia U.
