Hey everyone. I'll be busy taking my third SAT in October, and subject tests in Nov. and Dec. (Didn't slack off haha, just want to improve my scores). But I'm also considering the ACT on Dec. 8 when things get less hectic. All my colleges are regular decision, with deadlines all around January 1st. Will my results come back in time to meet the regular decision deadline for my 13-15 colleges I plan to apply to?

Insufficient information given. The answer is mostly yes because scores can arrive after the app deadline but there a small number of colleges with early Jan deadlines that actually require the scores to be in their hands by the app deadline. Check the colleges’ rules on their websites since those that do require the scores to actually be in their hands by the app deadline tell you that on their sites.

In addition, some of those that take Dec ACT scores tell you that need to designate them in your test application as colleges to automatically receive scores when released, meaning you cannot wait to learn of score before committing to send it, and they will tell you that on their websites also.

I gotcha, thanks. But having never taken the ACT, do you know how long it takes for ACT results to arrive?

The initial results usually come out shortly before end of Dec. However, essay score and the combined essay English score come out over a staggered period. Some may get them the same day or day after initial scores are released but some don’t get them for a week or even up to two weeks later and ACT does not send your scores to the colleges until your essay score is in. If processed electronically for sending (most colleges) they usually arrive fairly quickly, within a week after being sent.

Oh I see. I don’t want all my effort into the subject tests to go to waste either. Can I send my SAT scores and subject tests, and say I do well on the ACT (34-36) without the writing, is it worth just sending that extra ACT score to colleges?

If the college takes ACT without writing, send it, but many require the writing and will not consider it at all unless it has the writing.
