Will My Admission Be Rescinded? UCI and CPP

Hello all,

I am a high school senior and have been admitted to some schools for aerospace engineering. I have narrowed my list down to UC Irvine and Cal Poly Pomona but am currently leaning towards UC Irvine. However, I went through a rough period of time in my family where I lost my grandmother and my mother was ill. As a result, my grades have slipped a little bit and I may end up with a D in AP Calculus AB.

I am aware of the UC requirements of maintaining a 3.0 weighted GPA which I will easily do even if I get a D. I also have my A-G requirements completed even if I get a D in Calculus. My question is about the 3rd requirement that says to not get any D’s or F’s in an A-G course.

Will my admission be rescinded if I get a D? I have already sent a message through the message center in the portal for the college but I don’t know what to expect. I am also planning on taking this course over the summer in a Community College whether I get a D or not, so would that mean that I can make up the D that I get and they will not rescind admission? Any insight, advice, or experience is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Your admission can be rescinded for getting a D. At the end of July last year, UCI did rescinded many students. Although many were readmitted, I believe most of those involved transcript submission issues. Is there still time to raise your grade to a C-?

I don’t think that there is enough time to raise it to a C. Granted I will definitely try my best and talk to the teacher to see if there is anything that I can do I would just like to be prepared in the case that I end with a D.

How willing is the admissions office to accept me taking a summer course at a community college for the course that I get a D in rather than rescind me?

My advice to you is to call admissions and let them know of your situation. My friend recently did this to all her schools she applied to because she had a D in AP CALC and they told her it was alright !

Thank you for your response! I have sent them a message in the message center (which is supposedly better than calling or emailing) and am waiting for their response. It has been one day since I sent it. Also, I tried calling them but I was left on hold for three hours and eventually gave up, I guess I’ll try again. Also for your friend, could you tell me which schools she called and said it was alright? Because I think some of the more competitive ones (UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD) have little tolerance for it. Thank you for all your help.

If anyone has any other advice that would be well appreciated as well!

Does anyone else have anything to add? I would really appreciate any advice right now.

I think it really depends on the situation, especially if you have been a good student all along. I am sure they will handle it on a case by case basis, but I have seen several students even at the Cal states that have their admission’s rescinded. If you are willing to work out some options such as retaking the course over the summer, this may play into your favor.

Best of luck to you and hoping for the best outcome.
