I was admitted to the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University - New Brunswick campus last month. I'm usually a B student but I have received an F and very few C's and D's sophomore year when I took very challenging classes. I was accepted with a 3.6 weighted GPA and 1880 SAT.
However, this year I took AP Biology which I finished first marking period with a 60 and currently have a 57 with one last test remaining in the second marking period. Besides that, my other honors and AP classes this year are average and I am wondering if I can be revoked of my admission because of AP Biology. I do intend on bringing up my final grade before the end of the year of course but I am scared that Rutgers may rescind my admission.

Many colleges require you to notify them if your schedule changes or you get any grade lower than a C. And by notifying them promptly you do a few things that work in your favor. You show maturity, and you let them know in time to work out some alternative should this be important to your admission. One thing I can guarantee you: there will be far fewer options left if you freeze and do nothing, waiting until they find out the middle of this summer when they get your final HS transcripts.

The people who know the right answer to your question aren’t on this forum, they work in admissions at Rutgers and you should be talking with them. Tell them want to provide this update in case it has an impact on your admission and that you’d like to hear from the adcoms if they think there is any action you need to take to mitigate its impact (summer school, take a class at a CC, etc).

I did e-mail the admissions office a week ago explaining my drop in performance and this is what I got back:

"Dear,

The conditions of your enrollment were included in your admission packet and read as follows regarding academic work in progress:

When you accept our offer of admission, we will check your file to verify that all of your transcripts are official. Your final official records must include certification of any diplomas or degrees, as well as final grades for courses in progress at the time of your admission. Your enrollment at Rutgers is contingent upon satisfactory completion, with no significant decline in grades, of all academic work still in progress when your application was reviewed. If your final official records are not received and/or are not consistent with the records with which you were admitted, your admission may be revoked.

When we receive your final official transcript, we will review your final grades to assure that you have satisfied this condition. The strength of your current academic program was one of the many factors that was considered when you were admitted. We urge you to put forth your best effort to satisfy your conditions of enrollment."

Ah, you’re getting a flavor of dealing a large public! You try to do the right thing and you get boilerplate back. At this point about the only thing I can suggest is to see if your counselor can inquire on your behalf. At some publics they have a special contact for HS counselors to help navigate the maze, and if they do at Rutgers perhaps your counselor can help you out here. Good luck to you!

Thank you for the advice mikemac. I will definitely try my hardest to bring my grades up and speak with my counselor.
