Will my application be a total joke?

Brown is my dream school, and ever since I visited sophomore year, I’ve been in love. But do I even stand a chance with my stats? Or should I not even bother applying?

Female
Asian (Indian)
MA
Competitive public high school (sends many to top schools including Ivys)

Cumulative GPA: 3.7 uw…i think. My school doesn’t give it out of 4.0, but my average of all three years is a 93 unweighted.

Freshman year: 97 average.
Soph year: 92 average.
Junior year: 91 average.
I’m hoping to get back on track at least the beginning of senior year.

All Honors and/or AP classes.

Rank: 16/300…Top 5%

SAT:
CR-540 (yea, i know…)
M- 660
W- 740 with a 12 on the essay
This was my second time taking it, however, I had many distractions in the room, which caused me to do not as well. I’m most likely going to take again in Oct, but will taking it three times be just as respectable? I’m hoping to get that CR score to a 600+.

ECs Please note that I moved and therefore switched schools after my freshman year. There many seem a slight inconsistency in some activities because of this.

I understand that right now my SAT is killing me, but like I said, i hope to get that up at least another 100 points or so if possible. I will most likely pursue something in the medical/biology field. THANK YOU!

I think you have a relatively average application from an academic perspective and, consequently, you are no shoe in. That said, you have some cool EC stuff so that may help. My suggestion to you would be to scrap the whole SAT thing and take the ACT. I doubt a third time is really going to change your score too much if the first two times weren't good. With the ACT you can pick which score you want to be sent so if you mess up one time you can take it again and Brown will not see the "bad" score. With the SAT all scores are sent so they will still see your weaker scores. Good luck...and write a KILLER essay ;)

I took the SATs three times, and I still got in. Just make sure that your scores ARE going to go up. I'd say your biggest problem is your GPA.

Thanks, anyone else?

Yes.... top 5%, you are a JOKE.

I love how there's 300-something posts in this chance thread, compared to 6-10 for the others.

If you get your test scores up, you shouldn't be a "total joke". Like xmobile said, take the ACT. A lot of people find that the ACT is easier to take than the SAT - the score is rounded up, and the questions are much easier.

I think if you focus on one of your stronger ECs in your essays, you can have a chance.
