if I go to JHU for undergraduate and choose Biology as my major there?

Probably not.

No. It might decrease.

I probably wouldn’t plan my college career around JHU. Heck, planning it around getting into medical school at all (MD OR DO) is probably foolhardy at best.

Hopkins is one of those schools that is very deceptive to pre-meds. They frequently advertise their 90+% acceptance rate of pre-meds to a medical school, yet fail to include that this is “of those the committee recommends” in the recomendation letter. It’s a great undergrad, but will not increase your chances of acceptance more than another school…if anything, one could argue the competition will make it harder to get As.

Still, the most important factor to selecting a school should be “fit” and how happy you would be there for 4 years, as this is probably the biggest predictor of how you will do academically. If JHU tops the list, by all means go there.

Edit: misread the question. No to your original as well, JHU undergrad probably has a marginal effect only on admission to JHU med.

Picking a uni based on its medical school is a great way to be miserable for four years and end up getting rejecting anyhow due to the fact that you were miserable and didn’t thrive to the high level required for medical admission.

If you attend Hopkins for undergrad and or near/at the top of your class, then Yes, the med school would love to have you. But, the competition for Val/Sal at Hopkins is fierce. Much better to attend a grade-inflated school ranked higher (if you can).

^^^ Exactly what I was about to say, if you pick a school that you will enjoy for four years, you are more likely to work hard and get better grades at that school than if you went to some school you hated.
