I am an international applicant from India and I am applying for electrical engineering in UIUC, Purdue, GA Tech and Penn State.
My dream school is UIUC and I really want to get into its engineering department.
But my sat score seems to be quite low for UIUC engineering
CR-590
Math-740
Writing-650
Total-1980
(Math+CR-1330)

But I have excellent gpa and class rank
Class Rank-1/56
10th percentage-94.6%
11th percentage-89%
12th mid year-80%(strict corrections)
As you know, Indian high school courses are very rigorous.

ECs
Attended an internship in a technical plant
Participated and won in inter school quiz competitions
Currently hold a 6th grade certificate in solo piano from the Trinity College of London
Member of the ecology club and quiz club in my school
Done a community service of 100 hours
Played soccer in school level

I am applying for RD and can pay the full expenses.
So can my gpa and rank make up for my sat score?
Please chance me! Will surely chance back.

You’re in at all except GTech where it’s more of a reach but totally within reach since you’re sponsored. by the way, 1940 SAT is really very good for an international student.
Please come back to post your results! :)

I posted ur chance hours ago but apparently it didnt go through. This is hard tbh. I think ur sat score is good for these unis. A high math is a must. Gpa and rank could make a slightly low sat to be overlooked, but better safe then sorry. So retake maybe? Youll only need to add like 50 points.
High match - low reach for all of them since they are at same competitve lvl

try to retake the sat. Is english a second language for you? I was wondering because your critical reading sat score is the lowest of the three, which would be understandable if you grew up speaking a different language. Try to do some intensive studying and bring that up, then you should have a great chance for all of the schools. Even if you don’t bring it up that much, i’d say that you have a pretty good chance. Maybe try to take the act, some people find it easier. Good luck!

I actually did great in the first two sections of cr( only three mistakes) but in the third section, I lost concentration and committed many mistakes, which resulted in a 590. I am hoping to improve in the december sat. Oh, I also took the act on october but am not expecting great results( bombed the act reading!).

UIUC: Low Reach (they have a fantastic engineering department and your SAT is a tad low)
PSU: High Match
Purdue: High Match
GT: Reach (same as UIUC)

Ultimately your issue is this: your SAT is kinda low for UIUC’s engineering school and GT’s as well. And frankly nothing else about your application really makes up for it when compared with many international applicants. Nevertheless it’s not out of reach!

UIUC - match
Purdue - safety
GA Tech - high match (They’re not to helpful with internationals. Take if from experience)
Penn State - You’re in here instantly

Gosh, I’m always jealous of fellow Indians that are good at math
Anyhow, I would say match/low reach for Purdue. But I have a quick tip for Purdue, PM if you are interested.
Georgia Tech- reach
UIUC-reach
Penn State-low match

Also, I completely agree with wcao9311’s tip. That guide will bring your score up.
