Will My EFC Because Brother Graduated

Hello everyone. I just finished my sophomore year to a private university with a total cost of attendance of about 66,000. My EFC is 16,000. My brother just finished his senior year at his out of state university. His tuition was around 25,000. However, he was a D1 athlete and received almost a full ride (I believe 95% of his cost of attendance was covered). How will his graduation affect my EFC? And will they take into account his scholarship when calculating my new EFC? I appreciate any help, my financial aide office said they couldnt give me any answers until June and im starting to freak out

Do you attend a profile school or a FAFSA only school? Your FAFSA efc will probably double, but depending on the type of aid you receive, this may or may not have an impact on your package for next year. For FAFSA, the cost of your brother’s school or the amount of his scholarship didn’t matter at all in determining efc.

I go to a profile school (my efc for my profile is also 16,000) and all the money i get is from grants, not merit scholarships

If your college can’t tell you, then we on CC can’t possibly tell you.

Profile schools have their own systems for figuring your contribution. Nothing you can do but wait.

You need to go and talk to the folks in YOUR college financial aid office.

One thing…did you do your 2018-2019 FAFSA yet…indicating only ONE in college? If so…what was your FAFSA EFC? That might give you at least some indication of a change.

Does your college meet full financial need? If so, it’s possible…maybe even likely…that your net cost for your college will rise for the next year with only one sibling in college.

The question about your college meeting full need is important. Did your college meet your full need THIS academic year and last?
