I’m considering getting a gaming laptop, or a cheap laptop and good desktop. I’m worried that someone can easily steal it from my dorm though. The bright LEDs have the potential of attracting eyes with malicious intent so you never know.
Get dorm insurance, lock your door every time you come and go, don’t leave it unattended in the library or other public settings at your school. You should be fine.
Stories I have heard where stuff got stolen:
Dorm room isn’t locked
Unattended item in unlocked gym locker
stolen out of backpack
My son brought his last year and had no incidents.
That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, merely that it didn’t happen to him.
Frankly, I think a desktop is less likely to get stolen than a laptop. Much easier/less suspicious looking to walk out with a laptop under your arm than a desktop.
