applying ED

Um, which school? I don’t think you mentioned … unless CAS is a school?

You can try, but you probably won’t get in.

Well, Penn loves ED, and you are pretty deeply rooted in the school. I’d say it’s a 50/50.

I would say it is a toss up, but Legacy + ED is a really good combination. I would also say 50/50.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/732738-i-am-not-applying-college-i-am-applying-nyu-ed.html</a></p>

Probably not. Penn is loyal to legacies ED if they have minimal stats (top 10%, 700 minimum CR and math). The exception would be if one of your parents is a key employee (top prof or powerful admin).

^^and even then, I personally know TONS of top kids who did not get in ED with legacy…with top 5% and 1500 M/V for most…

i wouldn’t say its a long shot because i have seen kids from my school (regular public) get into cornell ED as a legacy with HORRIBLE (for cornell’s standards) stats… i mean like top 40% class rank and 1050 SAT scores… so i would not lose hope and just apply anyways… who knows what will happen

The fact that you’re from the Philly area (along with your legacy status) may just pull yourself through. Do well on your essays and get yourself scheduled for an on-campus interview (even if you’re bad at interviews, you’ve got to risk it all).

University of Pennsylvania CAS

Quite honestly, you’re a lackluster student. Even with your alumni / employee ties, I’d expect a ED deferral at best.

I thought the exact same thing applying to Brown ED with double legacy. I was deferred then rejected RD… I had similar SATs and was in top 7% or so.

*Ivies have long been accused of giving heavy preference to legacies in terms of admissions. They’re trying to change this.

There’s probably some truth in that, but from what I’ve heard Penn could very well be the most legacy-heavy school in the nation.

I don’t think you’ll get in either. Is Penn really the right school for you? There might be an upside to you going it would be a good idea to go some place else.

Well, if I do get in, I get free tuition due to the parental employment. I don’t think I’m a shoo-in, but don’t I have somewhat of a good chance?

To hmom5, my ties are from nursing school, the hospital, and a long-term but low level professor. So no “top prof or powerful admin.”

bump bump bump bump

SAT 2150 (740, 690, 720) superscored from three test dates

great test scores and if your parents give thousands then i dont see any problem with you getting in, your grades arent perfect but if you write god essays then you should be in

chance me back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735932-chance-me-i-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Honestly, I was just reading an article about how Penn has turned away a lot of legacies with 2200+ and 3.8+… I think you should definitely look at safeties. Also, look at your school’s stats: they send 10+ to Ivies and you’re not even in the top 20. I’m really not trying to be harsh I just think you should look into one of the other really amazing schools you could get into.
