Hello. This is my first post on CC. Right now, my main concern is my class rank. I go to an REALLY competitive school and my GPA is 3.73 weighted and possibly a 3.67-3.7 unweighted. Despite this, my class rank is only 182 out of 452. This really concerns me, especially since that rank doesn't even put me in the top 40%.So my question is, do you think my low class rank will harm my chances on going to to a top 50 college despite my fairly good GPA? I really want to go to a college like Madison, but with my low class rank, I'm not sure if that'll ever happen.

Bump…

With grade inflation, 3.6 and top 40% isn’t all that surprising. If your test scores and everything are good, and the college isn’t insanely selective like HYPSM or something, I imagine you’d be fine.

Okay thanks!

By the way, it’s not like I’m taking regular classes. I’m taking 3 weighted classes next year and 5 senior year

Idk if my school is really inflated though. It has one of if not the highest test score average in the state

^ I mean ACT average

Doesn’t mean anything. Ivy League colleges have grade inflation.
At a place with very little inflation, a 3.7 could be ranked a lot higher - top 10, even.
I was just commenting on grade inflation in general…a lot of high schools have a lot of people with 4.0s because the classes are easier than they should be, so it’s not really surprising to me that a 3.7 no longer has a good class rank. Especially since the highest possible weighted GPA is probably greater than 4.0.

Your unweighted GPA might be lower than you think - and that’s what colleges will care about. (Though they’ll probably recalculate it on their own scale.)
