I want to major in mechanical engineering and I know it's a competitive major, so will my chances be dropped?

Schools I am considering applying to:
UMiami (early action)
Arizona state
Florida state
UFlorida
UCSB
UCLA
USC
SDSU
CSU Long Beach
Texas A&M
Cal Poly SLO
UNC (early action)
University of south Carolina (early action)

Well, Arizona State accepts everything with a pulse, but to answer your question, yes. If you are applying to an engineering-specific school or department, you will probably be held to a higher standard with the hard stats. Engineering applicants tend to be much more competitive, so you’ll have to compete with that.

Cal Poly SLOs engineering department is much more competitive than the rest of the school. I can’t tell you exactly for the other ones, but impacted majors mean lower chances of getting in and engineering is frequently impacted. Good luck with wherever you apply!
