Will my MIT application still be considered if I don't submit financial aid documents by decisions?

My family is still deciding whether or not to apply for financial aid, and we might decide after decisions come out. I checked that I would apply, and I have the financial aid tracking box on MyMIT, but I am worried that if I never submit any financial aid documents my application be rejected soley based on that.

I guess what I am trying to ask is, are financial aid documents (for those who said we would be applying for aid) required to make an admissions decision?

What will happen if I leave fafsa/css/etc untouched?

Thanks.

Your application won’t be automatically rejected.

Where did you see a “will you be applying for financial aid” box? I don’t think that parts 1 and 2 of the MIT app ask that question.

hmm, maybe just psyching myself out.

Thanks!

There are deadlines for getting the FA documents turned in. I don’t know the specific dates for MIT, but you can’t delay too long – you need to meet those dates if you are applying for FA. It won’t affect your acceptance, but you run the risk of getting no aid.

If I just ignore that ,doesn’t that mean I dont want any aid since there is no button like "I don’t need it " on my mit account?

If you miss MIT’s financial aid deadline, you can still expect to get financial aid if you qualify. However, you are not guaranteed to get the results of your financial aid application in time for you to be able to compare the results to the results of the other schools that accepted you. Many students use these results to either negotiate with other schools for better aid, or to help them choose which school to ultimately attend.

Not filling out the FA forms won’t get your application rejected, but it won’t help you get accepted either. MIT is need blind and is not more likely to accept a student who can pay tuition over a student who needs a lot of aid.
