Will my previous poor transcripts effect transferring?

I’m not exactly sure how to word my question so here are a bit more details.

I’m currently a sophomore at a university. I didn’t do so well my first year due to mental health problems after not being able to adjust being away from home, not making friends, and a family member dying. I have a 1.8 gpa as of right now. I failed 2 classes and got mostly C’s in my other classes. If I keep my grades the way they are right now, I should have about between a 2.4-2.6 by the end of the semester. I am currently retaking a class I failed last semester.

I am also transferring back to a community college after this semester is over and retaking the other class I failed and finishing up my gen-eds. The reason why I am transferring is because the university I am currently at is too expensive and I will not be able to afford housing next semester. I also want to transfer to a university where I can live at home eventually.

If I end up with my anticipated gpa of a 2.4, hopefully do better at community college (i’m gonna try my hardest for at least a 3.5), and transfer to another school, will my previous poor grades and GPA come back and effect my admission processes? I know it’s better to retake classes at my current school for GPA renewal but I cannot come back to my university at all next semester.

When you get to your CC, meet with the Transfer Advisor there, and work on a plan for completing courses that you need to complete in order to apply to your final university. Yes, old bad grades will affect your admissions chances. But so will newer better grades. Focus on getting those better grades.
