Will my records effect my chances of attending college?

Let me first start by saying, I've done some things I'm not proud of and I have progressed from where I used to be. When I was 16 years old, I experienced a severe state of mental depression and I attempted suicide. I also ran away from home for two days at the same age. I went through months of therapy and self-evaluation to arrive at the state I am in now. I am currently a seventeen year old and I strongly fear that my chance may come back to haunt me. I really want to attend UMD and I was recently filling out my application with no worries until I came accross the "Additional Information" section which asked about my current standing at my current and previous institutions, my minor charges, and any disciplinary action that was taken. I know I should check yes for all three questions since they may check my records but I have a feeling that this will strongly affect my chances of getting in.

So will my records have a vast affect on my chances of attending UMD? If anyone has gotten into their dream university with previous medical (concerning mental health) or criminal records, your experiences would be appreciated. :)

I believe the question about your criminal record asks only if you have been convicted of a felony.

A college cannot discriminate based purely on medical reasons. They won’t be sent medical records, anyway. Are you considered a danger to yourself and others? If not, don’t worry about it.

Have you been disciplined at school for serious reasons that would be reported?
