I scored a 212 on the PSAT in Michigan and therefore became a semifinalist. I recently took the SAT and got a 2070 (1390 CR + M)...will this be enough to be a finalist?

Yes, that should definitely be enough for finalist...they just want to see your score for PSAT score confirmation...I haven't submitted my SAT score to NMS either...when are you sending it?

Did you already get your scores? My son's school doesn't release them until January!

I'm guessing your son is a junior, I am a senior and therefore already qualified as a semifinalist. I just recently took the SAT as a requirement to qualify for national merit finalist.

JyankeesSS2, I had my score direct sent to NMSC.

bump......

yeah, I think I'll be sending mine in the next few days

I just need a few more opinions.........

Relax, you'll be fine. Your score is within the expected range.

bump......

Do you need your PSAT see to qualify for national merit? I got 2250 on the SAT I, but I don't remember what I got on the PSAT (I'm pretty sure it was below 200, IIRC). Can I do anything to get in on this (Do they have my PSAT on database or anything or what?)?

You need to score high enough on the PSAT to be considered. This is based on the state in which you live. States like Arkansas require a 202ish to be a semifinalist, while NY, Mass, and Cali require low 220s to be a semifinalist. All other states are somewhere in the middle. If you scored below 200, there's nothing you can do. Don't worry about it, though.

As much as I hate to say it, I wouldn't get your hopes up :. I had a 231 on the PSAT and was a semi finalist, but when i followed up with a 2120 on my initial SATs, I got commended scholar but not finalist.
your school could be different! but i thought i should just let you know my experience. (i go to a premiere prep school in new jersey, for background)

I'm a semifinalist too...the way I see it, picking a finalist is just weeding out all the weirdos with low SAT's, low GPA's, no extracurriculars, and principals that hate them. And even the few lazy bums that don't both submitting an application. You have a 15/16 chance of being a finalist; your SAT score shouldn't jeaopordize that.

chelsea, what were your grades like...there is no way you would not get finalist if you had 2120.....

................

I really need piece of mind...did anyone call collegeboard for the 2007 finalists...
I have to wait till monday

bump......

I don't think anyone knows the answer. Can't you just call tomorrow? I really can't see you having a problem with your SAT score. Your PSAT was 212, SAT 2070 - only 50 points off of their "prediction". They wouldn't commend you for one and then tell you your second, very close to the range, isn't good enough. I REALLY don't think you have anything to worry about.

ok thanks, I think I'm just freaking out for no reason...
