Will my SAT score count?

Hey guys,

I am a junior in high school. I was planning to take SAT on May 2nd, 2015, and was going to register for the test, until one of my family members told me that I should check if my SAT score would be valid for my schools or not. She told me that her college (which is in Georgia) did not (and do not) accept any SAT/ACT scores that are from grade levels other than senior year (in other words, her college only accept SAT/ACT scores from the applicant’s senior year). She told me that the college made every applicant who didn’t have any SAT/ACT score from his or her senior year take SAT/ACT again in his or her senior year. The reason behind this college’s decision, as she explained me, was that the college viewed any score prior to senior year as legitimate yet inadequate, since for most students have incomplete mastery over skills that’s tested on SAT/ACT, thus signifying that a high SAT/ACT score they got in junior year may be dependent on some luck. She told me that I should check out my reach schools’ policies on SAT scores and that schools vary in their SAT score policies. Here are some of the colleges that I hope I get admitted (and are willing to try my hardest to get in!):

UC Berkeley, Cornell, Brown, UCLA (these are my top 4, although I am also planning to apply to other ivy league schools, as well as other top notch schools such as MIT and Duke and so on.)

My question is: Do these schools accept SAT scores from an applicant’s junior year (or more specifically, from May or June)? If you could please tell me whether my top four schools accept those SAT scores or not, that would be great, although it would be totally awesome if you could tell me the stance of other schools that I’ve mentioned.

P.S. Don’t try to look into official college admissions websites. My family member’s college in Georgia (the one that I’ve mentioned earlier) has an official website, so I tried to see if it said anything about the SAT score, but the website said nothing about their policy on SAT/ACT testing, although she is 100% certain that the college doesn’t accept SAT score from junior year. (The college’s name is SCAD, in case you are wondering). I searched the website for multiple times and I assure you that it didn’t say anything.

The reason I’m posting this is that I’m trying to decide if I should take this May and June SAT or not. If I do get a score that’s really good from these tests, but the my colleges in my wish-list don’t take the score, I’m gonna be a lot pissed, and also pressured more for having to get another good score. Now this doesn’t mean that I will get a good score from these two sittings if I take them; I’m just saying a possibility that’s small.

The SAT registration deadline for May 2nd 2015 SAT is April 6, which is tomorrow; so please respond quickly. Thank you!!!

If they don’t talk about it on their website, it’s not a thing. Why would they have some hidden requirement that invalidates so many scores?

ETA: Also they have a section on their website about graduating early from HS and going there after your junior year. You’d HAVE to take the SATs junior year.

I agree with @bodangles. I haven’t heard of such a requirement, but if a college were to have such a requirement that you take the SAT/ACT during senior/final year, it should clearly state it under application requirements.

I know multiple kids who were admitted to the schools you are applying to (Brown, Cornell, UCLA, Berkeley) who finished with SATs and ACTs in October, November, January and March of their junior year. As far as I know, none of the top 25 schools have a requirement that you take the SAT your senior year. I suspect that your relatively is wrong about SCAD too. As one of the previous posters noted, SCAD does have a section about skipping your senior year of high school and in that case it would be required that you take the SAT your junior year.

I’ve never heard of any college rejecting 11th grade SAT scores, and I’ve been a full-time SAT instructor and college counselor for 13 years.
