Hello,
In order to increase my GPA, i have decided to maximized the amount of ap classes I will take. I am currently a freshmen. Next year I want to take AP World, AP Chem, AP Stat. also precalc. I will need to take regular chem over the summer however.
If I were very productive and learn everything on time, how much time would it take to study everything after school and then get high scores on the tests. Will it be too difficult.
I need decide shortly, so a quick answer would be nice.
thank you
What is your current schedule?
Taking multiple AP classes only boosts your GPA if you do well, so don’t overload on difficult classes you cannot handle.
Without knowing more about your schedule, it would probably be better for you to take chemistry in tenth grade (rather than over the summer), and the rest of your schedule could be pretty manageable if you plan your time right.
my current schedule is honors bio, honors alg 2 trig, ap US. honors english 1
Your schedule seems fine. AP Stats is a joke, really.
Make sure you take your summer chem somewhere were you really understand it. Memorize the basic polyatomic ions, gas laws, understand stoic, stuff like that. AP Chem is a class that you will fail if you don’t understand Honors Chem all the way.
If you do well in Chem over the summer, AP Chem will be tough but doable. Beware that it’s very time consuming.
Ask your GC whether you’ll be able to “drop down” to another (H?) social science/history class if APWH is too hard.
Be aware that top colleges want to see about 8 Ap’s, total, and they want to see something that “makes sense”, so don’t take Aps just for the sake of taking APs.
What books do you recommend for my self-study of chem. I am not willing to pay the 500 dollars to study at a local college and need the best/ most understandable yet sufficient textbook there is. Or maybe just a couple of review books. Do you think that those review books will provide me with enough information to pass?
You can’t self study chem. You’ll have a necessary lab component. There’s no substitute. If you’re not willing/able to take it at a local college, then just take Honors Chem, not AP Chem in the Fall.
