Assume my grades are decent and parents are making the same.

Most merit scholarships are usually for 4 years and, unless for “full tuition”, won’t go up as tuition increases. Check the exact wording in your letter, then call or email admissions if it’s not clear. FA will change every year based on your parents recalculated EFC, your merit award and any other scholarships, and the school’s calculated cost to attend.
Generally, though, you will get the same level of help for 4 years.

Need based FA is re-calculated every year. So that part is hard to say. If the need is the same, then aid should be about the same. If the COA goes up and your EFC stays the same, your need-based FA will likely go up.

Merit aid amounts (except for the Renaissance and Genesee Scholarships) do not change from year to year. If you’re awarded a $10,000 grant, then the next year, that amount will be the same. It doesn’t go up, even if COA goes up.

The amount for Renaissance and Genesee Scholarships change each year because they are calculated on the current cost of tuition.

wait rochester national grants stay the same for all four year despite need? i thought that was based on need

There are two kinds of awards: merit and need based.

Awards that are pure merit (that is without any consideration of financial need) and awards that are need based.

Need based awards will change every year depending upon your family’s EFC and the COA.

It doesn’t matter what the award is called–some are called grants, some are called loans, some are called awards. If it’s need-based, then it gets adjusted.
