Will not taking the new SAT be held against me?

The Brown admissions office said that it is “strongly encouraged” but not required; I am going overseas and may not have the time to take the new one. I took old SAT + writing, however. Yale also said they would prefer the new SAT, but accepted the old one as well. Do you guys think that not taking the new SAT would be held against me in admissions? Should I explain that I will be studying overseas and have no opportunity to retake it?

Also, other schools such as Williams, Wesleyan, Dartmouth, etc. all said that the old SAT was fine, but I’m worried that the new one may be preferred. What do you guys think?
