I know that most colleges say that they have no preference when it comes to taking the ACT over the SAT, but when 97% of the applicants to UVA sent the SAT it can get discouraging.

What do you think? Will I be alright with just taking the ACT or will it come back to hurt me?

No, it will not hurt you. UVA will not think twice about it – especially since you are from Minnesota where the ACT is more common.

One reason why so many applicants to UVA send in the SAT is that the majority come from VA – and more from other states in the East – where the SAT dominates. Also, in years past, the College Board did not have score choice, so if students sent in SAT subject tests (which are recommended), UVA would see their SAT Reasoning Test scores anyway (if they had taken it) because they were on the same grade report.
