I am a prospective student (will be a senior this year), and I plan on applying to NYU School of Nursing. I am currently dually enrolled in both high school and college as an "early college" student. Early College is simply a better, revised form of the traditional dual enrollment. During my junior year and senior year, I take some classes at the high school, and the rest at the accredited community college. Will these dual enrollment credits transfer to NYU? What if the courses were also used to meet graduation requirements and appear on my high school transcript? I have NOT taken any AP courses, but do they accept AP credit? Just wondering. Remember, these dual enrollment courses are taught on the campus (or online sometimes), classes are of mostly college students, and they are taught by faculty members (who often times hold a PhD in their field--more often than not). I know some schools have a bigger issue with this if the courses were taught in the high school, but that does not apply in my case. I know many schools (especially private) determine this transfer credit based on case by case evaluation. Please share any personal experiences you have had with this at NYU or other academically prestigious universitites (Boston College, UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill, UPenn, U of M). Thanks:)

Regarding AP credit, it depends on the class. For example a 4/5 on some AP sciences can get you out of a natural science requirement, but only if your major doesn’t require a certain science class (ex. for chem major, AP chem doesn’t do anything except help you place into honors class). AP Calc scores can be used to place into higher Calc classes.

For college courses, I took a Vector Calc/Calc 3 class online through UofIllinois. NYU didn’t allow to transfer credit, but I was, after e-mailing the math department, allowed to place into Linear Algebra freshman year without taking any placement exams.
