Will NYU frown upon a funny looking transcript?

Hello,

I'm a little worried that NYU will hold some of the blemishes on my college transcript against me.

For instance, when I was a Business Administration major I had gotten a D in Accounting (mm hmm). This past Fall semester, I switched to Liberal Arts and dropped a math class that I didn't need for my new program (I was also doing poorly in the class).

In an appointment with my Honors advisor, I was told that basically it wouldn't be that big a deal because I'm not applying for a Business or Math program at NYU (going for Communications, actually).

Furthermore, does NYU look deeply at your GPA trend? The ups and downs of my GPA are as follows: 1st Semester 4.0, 2nd Semester 3.5, Summer School 3.6, and after 3rd Semester 3.6....You see -- High, down, up and then plateau.

Also, will NYU wait to see my 4th semester's grade before they admit me (although I don't see how they possibly could time-wise).

Thanks.

I wouldn’t worry too much - Steinhardt is easier to get into than CAS/Stern, and Communications is considered an easier major in terms of selectivity…so hopefully they won’t care about the D in Accounting…although keep in mind it will be included in your overall GPA, which is important, and i bet that D is bringing your good grades down.

generally they like to see an upward trend…yours is up down up, which is better than downward spiral, which i’m guessing is cause of the change in major. anyway good luck :)
