I have 19.5 hours of college credit already (2 classes from UC Irvine and 2 classes from Harvard) and I have taken 8 AP's (4 this year and a 4,3,3,3 on my others). I was wondering if NYU will give me credit for my college credit and/or my AP scores. Also, do they have a cap on how much credit they will take?

nyu only gives credit for 4's and 5's on ap exams

NYU only gives credit for APs if you score a 4 or 5 on the test. It also depends on which APs. You can check this on the website for your particular NYU college. The max. number of credits they'll let you bring in as a freshman, both AP and college, is 32. You'll find out what they'll accept when you meet with your advisor and register for classes.

Hello,

I am currently enrolled in two cooperative programs at my high school, associated with two different local colleges. One program includes classes purely identical to those that are taught at the college, which NYU has already agreed to awarding me credit for. However, the other is a program that has identical syllabi between each course, but they are registered AP courses at my school. Will I get transfer credit awarded for taking these classes even if I don't score a 4 or 5 on the AP test, since they follow an accredited university's syllabi and I must maintain a B or better to qualify for the credit?

Thank you very much,
Rohan

Dear Rohan,

Thank you for your post. While your Advanced Placement courses may be following the same syllabi as a college or university, unless you receive college credit for these courses from that school we can not offer you advanced standing credit for them. If you can provide our office with a college transcript indicating that you have been awarded credit for the courses they will be eligible for credit at NYU. But if these courses are only indicated on your high school transcript they will not be eligible for credit.

If you choose to take the AP exams associated with these classes and receive a score of a 4 or 5 you may receive advanced standing credit by examination.

Thank you for the speedy reply!

Out of curiousity, are there any instances in which NYU does not give credit for college courses taken? In other words, as long as I can forward an official university transcript will I be awarded elective credit?

Thanks
Rohan

Generally, we grant credit for classes for classes taken at an accredited college or university with a grade of "C" or better.
