I got accepted into NYU CAS this year into the class of 2024. My high school has switched to a pass/fail grading system this semester due to covid-19. I ended up failing my AP Calc BC class this semester because I decided to prioritize other classes and my mental health, which I really struggled. I passed all my other classes, but I know AP Calc BC is an important class and an F is very far from the B I got first semester, so I’m worried. Should I be concerned about this and will this affect my status of admission to NYU? Also, should I contact NYU and if so, how would I go about doing so?
In your instance, I would not wait for NYU to just get the final transcript but proactively let them know what has happened. Email admissions (if you know your regional AO’s email, then cc him/her). I understand NYU does not like rescinding and prefer to put underperforming final transcript students on a kind of academic watch for their freshman year, but the problems are usually Ds rather than F (all this is just my understanding from interaction with a prior NYU AO). Hopefully they will be understanding of the circumstances but better you know sooner than later, either way. Good luck.
Agree with the above and would also encourage you to speak with your HS GC. Not to ask whether you should contact NYU now (you should), but to see if they might be able to also reach out to the AO, read a draft of your email, etc.
Good luck.
Thanks for all the advice! I emailed NYU admissions, but their response was vague and said that they would contact me if my grades are a concern for them. I have also talked to my counselor, who offered to drop AP Calc BC for me. Is having the course dropped better than having a no credit on my transcript?
