Hi everybody! So all my life, I’ve been advanced in all my subjects and have taken honors and AP courses throughout my last years at high school. I’ve maintained a great GPA, and scored well on the PSAT. However, despite me being able to thrive in my other courses, I’ve never been great at math. I have an IEP, and took algebra 1A and 1B my freshman and sophomore year. I tried to take geometry as a summer course in order to get ahead this year. I maintained a solid B+ throughout the entire duration of the summer course, however, the final was worth 300 points and worth 33% of my final grade, and I didn’t do well on it. It dropped my grade until I was just two percentage points away from passing the class. So now I have a D+ on my transcript for a summer course that I worked my butt off on, and I’m curious to know if this will affect my chances of getting into a CSU or UC. I am a California resident. Thank you!
Also, I will be a junior this year, and have solid EC’s and multiple leadership positions and community service hours.
Geometry is an a-g course requirement for the CSU’s and UC’s so you need to retake the class and get a C or better to fulfill the requirements. If you do not retake the class, your application will not be reviewed.
This is from the CSU/UC a-g course requirement matrix and course validation:
Geometry Exception for UC: The omission of a geometry course cannot be validated by any higher-level coursework. However, the omission of the 1st semester of geometry can be validated by successful completion of the 2nd semester
I have linked the CSU/UC course matrix for your information. Familiarize yourself with the requirements:

You want to replace the D grade, since it will be used in your CSU/UC GPA calculation.
Good Luck.
Thank you, however, I was already planning on re-taking the course. My question was in regards to how it might affect my admission chances.
If you retake the exact course, your D will be replaced by the new grade and it will not affect your GPA and should not adversely impact your admission chances.
