Ok, in freshman year I got a detention for being tardy and I was wondering if that will screw my chances for getting into Harvard. My stats are:

ranking number 18 in the nation for elite triathletes
4.0 unweighted
7 AP classes, I got fives in everything but 2, and those were fours
Model UN best security council member
Southeastern swimming placing third in the 100 breast
BUT I'm Asian, will the detention screw me? and do I even have to put the detention down on my app?

No, it won’t hurt you. You don’t have to mention anything about a detention. In my experience, detentions are not recorded on transcripts. Forget about it.

I’ve had two. One stemmed from the tyranny of the school, the other included other tyranny. Would have been happy to explain either/both to colleges, haha. Not that the Dean ever really disagreed with me. Just had to keep the teachers happy.

But yeah, a detention (especially for tardiness) means nothing. Isn’t reported. You’re fine.

I would just withdraw your application now; you might as well enroll in your local community college and watch your back because Harvard has a reputation for assassinating students who apply that have gotten detentions in high school.

you’re kidding right? start worrying when you get at least 3 detentions. you’re fine. colleges don’t care much about detentions. my cousin got into one college that is top 50 in the world and he had many detentions (maybe 5 to 10?).
